Golden Apple: Carolyn Giddens

By Brad Means

Carolyn Giddens teaches senior literature at Harlem High School.

“I try to make it applicable to their lives. If you can make it applicable to their lives”, she says.

“They're going to enjoy it much more and it will make much more sense to them.”

Giddens is so much more than a teacher.

“The Lord has just always put teenagers on my heart”, she says. “I love teenagers. I feel like one of my main missions here is not just teaching literature, which is truly my passion, but also to let these kids know that I really do love them. If they leave my classroom knowing that I loved them and cared about them, then I know that I've been successful.”
