Jennie Montgomery co-anchors WJBF News Channel 6’s weekday newscasts at 5pm, 6pm, and 11pm.
Jennie joined the WJBF team back in 1995. She is a native of Spartanburg, South Carolina and graduated from Guilford College with a degree in Psychology.
An award winning broadcast journalist, she has earned two prestigious Edward R. Murrow Awards. The first for her series of reports on short term medical mission trips to Central America, in the documentary “Mission to Nicaragua.” The second in 2016, for another documentary, “Finding Birth Families.”
Jennie has been recognized numerous times by the Georgia Association of Broadcasters. She has won four GABBY awards for Best On-Air Personality. The GAB has also honored her work with a GABBY for Best Documentary and a Merit Award for Best Series. In 2000, she was named Best Female Anchor by the National Academy of Television Journalists.
Over the years, readers of Augusta Magazine have voted Jennie Best News Anchor and Best TV Hair! She was the 2006 recipient of the Augusta West Rotary Club’s Louis Harris Media Award for outstanding professional and civic contributions to the Augusta community. She’s also been honored with the Alumni Excellence Award from Guilford College and the Doing The Most Good award from the Augusta Salvation Army.
Besides anchoring the evening newscasts on WJBF News Channel 6, Jennie writes a monthly parenting column, “Mom2Mom“, for Augusta Family Magazine. Parenting Publications of America has honored her work with the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards for Humor Columnists.
Jennie’s a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Augusta. She is very involved in the Augusta community through volunteer work with non-profits. She is a member of Women in Philanthropy of the CSRA and is currently Chairperson of the Advisory Board of Directors of the Salvation Army Augusta Area Command.
She and her husband, Scott, have 3 grown children and two dogs. Jennie is a HUGE Gino Vannelli fan and she enjoys art projects, puzzles, and traveling. Read her “Mom2Mom” columns here.
