A call to bring back CADI
The downtown cleanup program ended in January after commissioners did not vote to renew it,even after downtown officials said they received support from more than 51 percent of the downtown property owners.
Now the Downtown Development Authority is asking commissioners to bring it back.
Some downtown business owners say for they would like to see the program back.
“I think it's time to revisit CADI, (Clean Augusta Downtown Initiative) seems to me after a few months of not having them we can see there is definitely a difference in the cleanliness of downtown just one of the services that they provided not to mention great opportunities for security, safety, and the ambassador program they had,” said David Hutchison the owner of the Book Tavern.
Under the CADI program downtown property owners agree to tax themselves to cover the costs of services.
Commissioners are scheduled to discuss the request at their meeting next week.
