A man charged with attempted murder is a free man…after being released from jail by mistake.

Dwaine Johnson, Jr. was arrested in connection to a shooting in August 2011.

Officials at the Kirkland Reception and Evaluation Center in Columbia somehow mixed up Johnson with another inmate. As a result…they released him.

“We take in numbers of people every day and more then anything that is probably part of what came into play…of course, we are investigating the situation to figure out just exactly what happened,” says Clark Newsom, of the South Carolina Department of Corrections.

Johnson was serving a six month sentence in Columbia for throwing bodily fluids on a corrections officer. After that…he was going to be transferred to Georgetown to serve time for the shooting.

If you see Johnson, or have any information on his whereabouts, please call 803-896-2258.
