Augusta is looking for help to bring in new small businesses.
Commissioners giving the go-ahead tonight for the City Administrator to develop a plan to hire a recruiter to bring in new businesses like restaurants and shopping centers.
Especially in areas of town like south Augusta.
The options for the administrator would be to hire a city employee as a retail recruiter or possibly partner with the Augusta Development Authority.
“We need somebody or some force in that area we're losing potential retail stuff particularly on the south side and stuff we need somebody who can focus on that if the Development Authority can provide that service that's obviously something I want to talk to them about,” says City Administrator Fred Russell.
Russell says the plan for the recruiter should be back before commissioners in a month.
