Local soldiers are attending a departure ceremony Saturday at Fort Gordon.

Around 150 area soldiers from the 278th Military Police Company of the Georgia Army National Guard will be leaving for Afghanistan soon.

Saturday morning, a departure ceremony was held to see the soldiers off. The unit will actually depart to another camp Sunday, April 7. They'll train there for 45 days before deploying.

In Afghanistan, the company will be providing vital security support to U.S. and Coalition Forces. They are expected to be overseas for 9 months.
