Karmen Lowery has her work cut out for her when it comes to keeping these 3 and 4 year olds focused.
“They are just full of energy,” she says. “And so a lot of the learning we do is a lot of play. Because of course, all they want to do is play. We just have to put that playing and that energy together when they first come in. So we just have to put that playing and that energy when they first come in. But then they get the routine and we'll all set in the routine, and that's pretty much the whole first half of the year.”
That routine gets them ready to make the most of pre-k.
“I expect them to learn anything they're ready for. So if I put something out there for them, and they get it, then I keep going with it. But definitely letters, numbers, shapes, just exploring the world around them. They soak it all up.”
That's pretty amazing and pretty rewarding.
“I tear up everyday because it's amazing how much they learn and then you look back to see what they were in the beginning and where they've come to now. And the school year is not even over. But they wouldn't even be able to sit like this at the beginning of the year,” she says.
Congratulations Karmen Lowery. A great part of a great team at Immaculate Conception. A team that loves helping these children succeed.
You're kind of like their other parents away from home. Because we're here most of the day. This is like half of their day. That is so important to hug them and to let them know that they're loved.”
