City leaders are taking steps downtown to drum up new businesses.
The Downtown Development Authority wants to see new retail shops in the Broad Street area. So the Authority has hired a Birmingham Alabama consulting firm to work on recruiting small businesses to the area.
“I think the ultimate goal right now is retail shopping looking at support services for downtown residents need a grocery store a drug store services and great, great retail places for people to shop destinations,” says Downtown Development Authority Director Margaret Woodard.
Augusta commissioners have already directed the Administrator to hire a city retail recruiter for areas outside of downtown. One option would be to use the same firm working downtown to look at other areas of Augusta as well.
The retail recruiter is one item up for discussion at a commission retreat scheduled for Wednesday.
