An Augusta Commissioner feels city leaders should lay off the Purchasing Department.

City leaders discussed review of three city departments at their retreat, starting with the Procurement Department.

That department was ripped in a recently published legal article written by a local attorney that sued the department.

But, Commissioner Marion Williams didn't approve of making the Procurement Department first in line for a review.

“Procurement has been scrutinized more than any other department  we've got a bunch of departments but that's the only one no other department has been scrutinized to any level but that one and I take issue with that I want to know if they were wrong by now something would have shown up,” says Commissioner Marion Williams.

Commissioner Wayne Guilfoyle says Procurement Department Director Geri Sams has nothing to hide and he thinks she would want to get the review over with and doesn't think it's “picking on procurement,”

Fred Russell suggests working with UGA's School of Government to determine which 3 departments should be reviewed first, to decide how to improve government services.
