Augusta, GA (WJBF) — Johnston, South Carolina's Jakar Hamilton continues to train daily at Champion Fitness in Augusta. He has been working with them since his sophomore year at Georgia. He's hoping all the hard work pays off later this week when he expects his name to be called in the NFL Draft.
It's been a long, winding road since Hamilton left the Strom Thurmond Rebels. He spent 2 years at Georgia Military College before joining the Georgia Bulldogs. He only started 5 games at safety and dealt with an ankle injury. He eventually transferred to play his senior season at division 2 South Carolina State. Hamilton hopes this long road ends with him fulfilling a childhood dream of playing in the NFL.
Hamilton really jumped onto the NFL radar after his pro day at SC St. He ran a 4.56 40. He had been projected by many experts as a late round pick or free agent. But he says lately he's been hearing that he could go as high as the 2nd or 3rd round. Jakar says he visited a number of NFL teams, and he says the Cowboys, Redskins, Packers, Jets, Texans, and Chargers showed the strongest interest.
Hamilton says he will watch the draft at his grandparents house in Johnston.
