Palace Malice Ready to break Dogwood Drought at Kentucky Derby

Over the past 40 years, only four stables in the United States have started more horses in the Kentucky Derby than Aiken based Dogwood Stable.  Of the seven Dogwood horses to run at Churchill Downs, there's been a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finish.. but never a win.

Dogwood Stable President Cot Campbell believes the drought might end with 2013 entry Palace Malice.

“Palace Malice trained without blinkers on Wednesday and again today. He won't wear them again until he works on Sunday, at which time he will go a half mile under the guidance of Mike Smith and will gallop out five-eighths. Obviously, having a busy schedule in the last two months, he is not in need of a lot of drilling.

“However, his energy is good. A good work on Sunday will pretty well set him up for the balance of the week. He's been schooled in the gate. In the Blue Grass he walked into the gate as if he owned it, whereas in earlier races he's been a little fidgety about going in. No big deal, but the less extra energy expended the better.”
