A Thomson plant is shut down after a portion of the roof collapsed.

Officials with Shaw Industries are trying to find out what caused the roof at their Thomson plant to partially collapse Sunday.

Firefighters were called to the scene Sunday. According to Chief Bruce Tanner, the EMA Director in McDuffie County, the plant was evacuated and no injuries were reported. As a precaution, firefighters remained on the scene overnight.

Shaw spokesman Chuck Moore says a 10 foot by 20 foot section of the roof was damaged and he suspects heavy rain in a short period of time may have been to blame.

The plant is currently shut down and workers will be notified when to return to work. there's no word yet on how long repairs to the building will take.
