Burke County deputies, along with officers from the Department of Natural Resources and Richmond County deputies, have arrested the second man wanted in connection to a grave robbery.

Deputies say 39-year old Jerry Atkinson had been hiding in a home off Hancock Landing Road. They say Atkinson had been disguising himself as a woman to keep a low profile. Investigators received tips that the suspect was hiding in a home belonging to 44-year old James Ralph Morris. Morris was arrested for hiding a fugitive.

The first suspect in the robbery case, Ralph “Bubba” Hillis, was arrested on April 23.

Deputies say Atkinson and Hillis men broke into several graves at the Old Church Cemetery in Burke County, including Civil War and Confederate vaults, found on April 13.
