Nuclear Plant Part Provider Probed

Early Election Date Nearly Set (Image 1)

Federal authorities are investigating a factory that supplies parts to nuclear power plants under construction in the Southeast over allegations that employees broke quality control rules and falsified records.
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission sent a subpoena in November to The Shaw Group Inc. seeking documents related to a potential violation. The existence of the probe was later made public in legal filings.
The allegations focus on a factory in Lake Charles, La., that manufactures large components for two nuclear plants now under construction, Plant Vogtle (VOH'-guhl) in Georgia and Plant Summer in South Carolina.
CB&I, which acquired The Shaw Group in February, said it has fully cooperated with the government, provided the requested documents and fixed the problems.
