Augusta, GA — The sale between Ripken Baseball and Agon Sports & Entertainment has been completed and approved by the South Atlantic League, Minor League Baseball and Major League Baseball. Now the new era of the GreenJackets begins.
The team's sale to Agon Sports & Entertainment includes several Augusta, Atlanta, and South Carolina based investors. This is the first time this century the club has had local and regional ownership.
“We are excited that the day has arrived, this is an exciting day for the community and the future of baseball in the region. Having an ownership group with deep local and regional ties helps cement that bond. Now the focus is on us enhancing the fan experience as well as securing a long term regional home for the team” said Jeff Eisemen, President of Agon Sports & Entertainment and the Augusta GreenJackets.
The GreenJackets are members of the South Atlantic League and currently are playing their 26th season in Augusta and celebrating 25 years of operation.
Eric Krupa, South Atlantic League President, said, “The league thanks Ripken baseball for their excellent stewardship of the Augusta franchise.”
