Parking Downtown Again A Problem

It's another problem for downtown Augusta….. parking.

After new two hour limit signs went in the median on Broad Street last week, the Sheriff's Office began writing tickets.

This caught business owners and employees by surprise.

One business owner says he's been parking in the median on Broad Street for more than twenty years and just now is the limit being enforced.

“It's never been enforced since 1989, it's been tried when they tried to get the parking meters on we thought when we left here a couple of years ago that we an exception between 11th and 13th, obviously no one wrote that down or took it into account,” said Donald Thorstad, who has an engineering office on Broad Street with 27 employees.

Commissioners directed the city administrator's office, the Sheriff's Office and Traffic Engineering to come up with a plan on how and where to enforce the two hour limit.

That report is to be done by the next commission meeting next week.
