It's a brand new legal bill for Augusta.
Augusta's public defenders office says it needs to contract immediately with five new lawyers and new investigators to handle cases in state and magistrate court.
The city has little wiggle room because its based on ruling by the Georgia Supreme Court handed down In April.
The cost is 120 thousand dollars, money that's not included in this years budget.
If the full commission approves the city will go into the contingency fund to cover the costs.
The city budgeted $300 thousand dollars for contingency, that's money set a side for unexpected expenses, the city has already spent 5000 dollars so this will leave $175 thousand dollars in the account.
