Cliff and Arlene Kluge think they've found the goods. “Is this the real deal?” we asked. “We sure hope so…we believe it is definitely related to Coca-Cola.” they say.
What they believe they have is the secret recipe to the most popular soft drink on the planet!
For more than 100 years, the people who make Coca-Cola have guarded their super secret formula…
But, Kluge and his wife say they discovered this 1943 copy, buried deep in a box of old documents they picked up at an antique sale. He would only show us a copy, with the important parts blocked out, but like the commercial says, he's sure it's the real thing.
“It says, on page 83 of the extractors, the original Coca-Cola formula, which might serve as a source of perforation info” Kluge says.
Coke says that finding their trade secret is no different than discovering the Loch Ness Monster or Bigfoot…it's just not going to happen. They
have one copy, and say it's safe and sound in this vault, at their world headquarters, in downtown Atlanta.
“At least once a year, somebody shows up and says, 'I have the original formula for Coca-Cola, how much do you want to pay me for it?' Well, we don't
need to pay them anything for it, because we have the only real one,” says Coca-Cola's chief archivist, Ted Ryan.
It's the holy grail of soda pop, and Coke fanatics have been searching for it for years. NPR's website crashed in 2011 when they posted what they said
was the secret formula.
Cliff Kluge has posted his online as well…but on eBay! They're asking for at least $5 million…enough to make their lives sugary sweet.
