Blackville-Hilda Shutout in State Championship

The Blackville-Hilda soccer team was already a heavy underdog heading into Saturday's Class A State Championship with defending champ St. Joseph's – but the daunting task was compounded when All-State goalie Joseph Staley was suspended following a red card in the Lower State finals.

Junior midfielder Christian Sanders learned the position in three days and started in place of Staley, and held the Knights to just two goals in the first half. But then the floodgates opened as the Hawks defenders tired, allowing 10 goals in the second half en route to a 12-0 shutout out loss.

Blackville-Hilda only graduates four players, Staley not included, so head coach Derek Allison says he wouldn't be surprised to see both of these teams in a state title rematch next season.
