Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver is the 2013 recipient of the Robert F. Cocklin Award presented at the Third Region of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) banquet Saturday night at the Augusta Marriott Hotel.
AUSA is a private, non-profit educational organization that supports America's Army – Active, National Guard, Reserve, Civilians, Retirees, Government Civilians, Wounded Warriors, Veterans, and family members.
The Robert F. Cocklin Award is named for Major General Robert F. Cocklin, United States Army retired. He is the former Director of Public Affairs and President of the Association of the United States Army for more than 30 years. The award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated exceptional support for AUSA, our military and their families. Past recipients have included Senator Saxby Chambliss.
“Words cannot fully express how much this award means to me as it is truly an honor to be able to lend support to our men and women in uniform who so selflessly serve our nation and protect our freedoms on a daily basis,” comments Mayor Copenhaver. “I would like to thank everyone at AUSA for this recognition which I believe serves to highlight the unique bond our community has with our nation's military.”
