Girard Gas Station Destroyed by Fire

Today motorists in Girard, Georgia will have to find a new place to gas up.  According to a spokesperson with the Burke County Emergency Management Agency,  the BP station on highway 23 in Girard was destroyed by fire early Tuesday morning.  Authorities say the fire broke out around 1:00 a.m.

The station with its convenience store is also known by locals as the “Girard Mall.”  No word yet on what sparked the blaze.  At this point, foul play is not suspected.
