New Waynesboro Police Chief Sworn In

There is a new top cop
in Waynesboro. Augustus Palmer III was sworn in as the new chief of police for the
Waynesboro Police Department. Although he was sworn in Monday night, Palmer officially started
working for the department last week.

Before going to Waynesboro, Palmer was
the commander of officer professional standards at the Riverdale Police
Department. He also worked for the Atlanta
Police Department for 20 years.

Several of Palmers former
co-workers from the Atlanta area were at the ceremony tonight. The Riverdale Chief of Police spoke about Palmer.

“This is an important day,
not just for the police department, but for the city of Waynesboro. Public
safety is important to all of us. We can't live without it. You are getting the
best of the best,” Chief says Samuel Patterson.

After he
was sworn in, we asked the new chief of police for an interview. Palmer declined that interview saying
that he wants to wait a little while before addressing the media.
