Augusta is looking for another half a million dollar to take down houses.

As we reported yesterday, 500 thousand dollars approved last year to demolish rundown houses has run out.

But hundreds of blighted buildings remain.

The city administrator says there's no money in the budget to take down any more houses.

Some commissioners hope that will change.

“I hope the administrator can find the means to put another 500 thousand towards it because we can't stop here George you know we have a lot of blighted structures here if we're not going to rehab there we need to abolish them. I think this is not an opportunity to do that,” says Mayor Pro-Tem Corey Johnson.

About 100 abandoned buildings were demolished using the 500 thousand dollars.

That money was part of the one point six million dollar surplus left over from the 2011 budget.
