Pet Rescue Ordinance Going To Commissioners

Augusta commissioners could be prepared to give pets left in cars a break.

Animals left in hot cars face serious dangers and next week a commission committee will debate a change in city policy.

The change would allow public safety officers to enter a vehicle if they see a pet in distress even if it means breaking a window.

“I love animals and I would never leave my animal in a hot car or any other time that's something that will have to be discussed I don't know how you go implementing protection of animals but that's something we're going to discuss,” says Commissioner Mary Davis.

Augusta's Sheriff, Fire Chief, and Marshall, have signed off on the proposed rule change.
