Monday's Aiken Rotary Club meeting was abuzz to greet Cot Campbell back to Aiken…after his horse, Palace Malice, won the Belmont Stakes over the weekend.
Everything was decked out in Dogwood Stables' yellow and green, and the name Palace Malice was on everything from buttons…to the cake.
Campbell, who got a standing ovation when he walked in, says the reception couldn't have been any warmer and welcoming. “It was unbelievably warm. When we hit first intersection, driving in from the airport, literally people dancing in streets to strains of 'New York, New York' and that's about as warm as you can get,” he said.
While Campbell is already back in the CSRA, Palace Malice won't be back for several more weeks. We're told that he has another race in New York to run next month.
