Pet Rescue Ordinance Up For Vote

Augusta city leaders are voting on a change to city ordinance to help rescue pets or children left in cars on hot days.

The change allows public safety officers to break a window of a vehicle to get to the pet and child.

Under the ordinance the pet owner would be responsible for the broken window as well as any vet bills for the animal.

The owner could also be charged with a misdemeanor.
