GRU Softball Officially Adds Silver Bluff Star

Augusta softball program and head coach Melissa Mullins added to her catching
arsenal Tuesday with the signing of Laini Frye, a 5-7 catcher with experience at
third base and shortstop.

Recently graduating from Silver
Bluff High School in Beech Island, S.C., Frye will join the Jaguars for the
2014 season as a true freshman. As a senior in 2013 with the Silver Bluff Lady
Bulldogs, Frye earned best defensive athlete and was named the Most Outstanding
Senior Female Athlete and Most Outstanding Academic Female Athlete for her high

“I am so excited to have Laini
join our program and I think she is a real steal this late in the recruiting
game,” Mullins said. “When my assistants and I watched her play, we were
instantly impressed with her hustle and with how she commanded the game. I
think she will bring a lot to our program this fall.”

An All-Region player for all four
years of high school, Frye was the 2013 Scholar Athlete for Silver Bluff and
maintained full involvement in Beta Club, National Honors Society, Student
Council and Honor Roll during her tenure. Frye recorded a .331 career batting
average for the Lady Bulldogs, totaling 35 doubles, nine triples and 13 home
runs from the right side.

Frye joins a list of new signees
that committed in the early signing period: Julia Banks (DP/UT from Decatur,
Ga.), Ashley Benton (OF from Watkinsville, Ga.), Brianna Dickens (SS from
Watkinsville, Ga.), and Mallory Ferguson (C from Guyton, Ga.).
