An unlikely place to look for those looking for a job:  Behind bars.

The Aiken County Sheriff's Office needs more people to apply for positions at the county's detention center.

They say they face two primary challenges in filling those spots.

One is that many people don't meet the basic criteria because of problems like having a criminal record themselves, or not having a good driving record.

Also, because those jobs aren't visible, many people don't apply because they don't know they exist.

“A lot of folks, they overlook that they see a police car and think that's what they want to do is ride in a police car, but a lot of those folks started in the detention center and moved over to the main office and working in the cars as well,” Captain Eric Abdullah says.
