Augusta, GA (WJBf) — The Augusta Rugby Club is hosting a big event on Saturday. They're a club that's been around longer than you might think.
The Augusta Rugby Club was founded in 1972 by students at the Medical College of Georgia. That's where they got their original nickname, The MD's. Eventually they changed to the Mad Dogs.
The club has about 60 members comprising two teams, the men's premier team and the social team.
The club is hosting the 4th annual Back Nine 7's Tournament on Saturday at North Augusta Middle School. 16 men's teams from across the southeast will be competing. There is also a women's division. Admission is free.
