Augusta, GA (WJBF) — The Springlakes swim team has hosted a relay meet in Augusta for the past 25 years. The meet annually draws the best competition from around the region.
This year's meet will be extra special. The club has renamed the event after its founder, Pete Igel. Igel passed away last year at the age of 71.
Team manager Marianne Petras says 10 members of Igel's family will be on hand for Saturday's relay. She also says that there's no better way to honor Pete than to carry on the tradition he started.
The meet begins at 9 a.m. Saturday morning featuring four of the top club teams from around the region.
Igel's family will be presented with a plaque honoring his service to swimming in the CSRA.
