THOMSON, GA – Before Jasper Brinkley went on to star at South Carolina and then in the NFL, he was making tackles at the Brickyard in Thomson and helping the Bulldogs to a 2002 state championship.
This morning, Jasper and his brother Casper hosted the annual Club 54 at Sweetwater Park in Thomson. Nearly 150 kids turned out to get coached by the Brinkleys and some of his NFL friends.
After four years with the Minnesota Vikings, Brinkley recently signed with the Arizona Cardinals and he says memories from Friday nights at the Brickyard will always be with him.
“People here bleed black and gold,” Brinkley said. “I even think about the 'Ghost of the Brickyard' when I'm in Arizona. It's huge, we have a great support system here.”
Other notable players at the camp were Laney's Corey Irvin and Jefferson County's Fernando Velasco.
