WJBF and WAGT were recognized as the winners of the Just Cause Award on Thursday, June 27th at The Promax Station Summit Awards Ceremony and banquet, for their campaign to bring awareness to The Augusta Warrior Project. WJBF Brand Manager Robert Pippin and WAGT Marketing Director Mariah Gardner accepted the award on behalf of both stations.
Augusta, Georgia's WJBF (ABC affiliate) and NBC 26 (WAGT affiliate) came together to host a day-long telethon at Television Park on April 23, 2013 to benefit the Augusta-Aiken Warrior Project (AWP). AWP is a local, independent non-profit organization that helps veterans in 13 counties in GA & SC with critical life issues including homelessness, employment and education when they return to civilian life.
Without raising funds needed to continue operations, AWP would be forced to shut their doors in September. The non-profit turned to Television Park (WJBF & WAGT) for help. A telethon on the two stations was the answer! The telethon secured over $32,000 for AWP in one day and brought awareness to the distinction between AWP and Wounded Warrior Project. This was a major hurdle as many donors who intended to support AWP sent funds to the nationally-based Wounded Warrior Project, funds that would not directly benefit local veterans. Together, WJBF and WAGT helped save AWP, a valuable local non-profit.
