More than 100 runners and their four legged friends hit the streets of downtown Augusta for the Puppy Jake 8K & 4K Dog Trot on Saturday, July 6th.
The event was held to help raise money to provide a service dog for a local wounded veteran. The Puppy Jake Foundation in Iowa trains service dogs.
Training costs between $18,000-$20,000 and typically there is a two year wait list.
Veterans, like Steven Farmer, are thankful for the help.
“If I have an anxiety attack, which happens a lot of times with us vets because were always in combat mode it can snap on at anytime, then I just say the word and he pulls me out of there” said Farmer.
More than $5,000 was raised from the Puppy Jake 8K race.
News Channel 6 is proud to be one of the sponsors of the event.
