The National Weather Service in Columbia, South Carolina has issued a Flash Flood Warning for portions of Columbia County until 7:45 p.m. Thursday night.

The Flash Flood Warning is issued for the eastern part of the county, including Martinez and Evans.

At 6:14 p.m. EDT, National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a nearly stationary thunderstorm over Evans…producing very heavy rain over some of the area that experienced flooding on Wednesday.

Runoff over already saturated ground will lead to significant street flooding…including roads that may become impassable…and flooding of other low lying flood prone areas. Vulnerable areas include the Reed Creek Basin ans surrounding areas. Motorists should use extreme caution.

Precautionary/preparedness actions…

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams…urban areas…highways…streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely. Move to higher ground.
