Laney’s Look: Season Seventeen Of DWTS Is Shaping Up To Be A Favorite

Laney's Look: Season Seventeen Of DWTS Is Shaping Up To Be A Favorite (Image 1)

After a week off, I'm back with my rambles and thoughts on
the latest episode of “Dancing With The Stars”.
I have to start, though, by addressing the lack of elimination last week
do to the error with voting phone numbers. I fully believe that the producers
made the right call in not eliminating anyone. In my gut I had an inkling they
would go that way, but there was always a chance.

I've watched all seventeen seasons of the show, and I'll
admit that some seasons have been better than others. Right now, I have to
admit that this is one of my favorites. I think the field of talent is great,
and each of the celebrities is coming into his or her own.  It's really been fun to watch.

So lets get started with this week's fun.

Elizabeth Berkley
Lauren (Quick Step)
– Technically I thought Elizabeth did a great job with
the Quick Step. I think that is one dance that you either get it or you don't,
kinda like the Paso Doble. She had it. I'm not a huge fan of the premise of her
dance. For me it was a little cheesy, and she doesn't need that.  Judges'
Scores: 9-9-9

Brant Daugherty
– I love the Jive, and Brant totally did the dance justice. It was
quick, it was quirky, and it was fun. As I wrote that, I realized that I sound
like Len Goodman, but it's the truth. Brant has really come into his own. I
look forward to seeing what he comes out with every week. Yeah, there was the
one little slip-up when he slid on Peta's skirt, but he carried right on.
That's what you call a performer. Judges'
Scores: 9-9-9

Leah Remini (Salsa)
– Leah is one of the dancers that I've seen grow this season.  I didn't see her lasting as long as she has,
but each week it seems like her confidence is growing. That shines through in
her dancing. This week's Salsa really showed her spunk, and I liked that. The
lifts performed were still a little shaky, but the dance itself was great! Judges' Scores: 9-8-9

Jack Osbourne (Jive)
– This week was proof as to why I admire Jack for taking on this competition.
Having friends with MS, I know what a struggle it can be at times. He is
strong, though, and battled on. I thought he did a great job with the Jive. Did
I think he earned a 10? For heart – yes. For his dance…  Not really, but he still did a great job. Judges' Scores: 10-8-9

Amber Riley (Paso
– I actually missed seeing Amber's performance, but I just went to
the website to watch it. I've got to say, she was fierce. I loved the music and
the choreography Derek developed around it was awesome. It made me forgive him
for the snafu a couple weeks ago. I just love the passion behind her dancing. Judges' Scores: 10-10-9

Bill Engvall (Quick
– Bill is simply such a joy to watch. That said, I wasn't a huge fan
of his Quick Step. It was a fun number, but, like I said earlier, the Quick
Step is one that you either hit or miss on. For me this was sadly a miss. Still
adore him, but overall I understood his scoring. Personally I thought it
should've been straight 8's. Judges'
Scores: 8-7-8

Nicole Polizzi
– I was half and half when it came to Nicole's dance this week.
Technically she did the steps, but there was something missing. It could go
back to the fact that she'd had a hard week. I'm not sure, but she didn't seem
to have the confidence behind her moves. It was like she was just going through
the motions, and it left me disappointed. Judges'
Scores: 9-9-9

Corbin Bleu (Cha-Cha)
– Corbin has talent, plain and simple, and I loved his Cha-Cha. He rarely
disappoints. I always gauge a dance if the celebrity can get me to watch them
over the professional. He always draws my focus. To me he is a definite
contender for the mirror ball, but Disney stars tend to fall near the end from
lack of fan support. I'll be curious to see if that happens this season. 10-9- 10

And this week added the element of the free-style group

Team Spooky Bom Bom
– This was my favorite group dance of the night, I have to say. Consisting of
Elizabeth, Leah, Nicole, and Bill – I thought the number was a lot of fun. The
dance didn't get lost in the theme. I've mentioned before that a lot of time
themes overshadow the actual dance, but that wasn't the case. The entire team
did a great job in my book. Judges'
Scores: 9-9-9

Team Foxing Awesome
– Carrie Anne's comparison between this dance and an acid trip was dead on. If
you haven't  seen the video for “What
Does The Fox Say” you probably thought you were trippin'. I thought the dance
was hilarious, because I have seen the video. My mom, who was watching the show
with me, was confused. The team of Amber, Jack, Corbin, and Brant did a great
job, but, unlike the other team, I thought the fox theme overtook the dancing. Judges' Scores: 10-10-10

When it came time for the elimination, I held my breath
waiting to see if it would be Bill or Nicole eliminated, and I cheered when
Bill was safe. I just didn't want to see him go yet. I know his time is coming
soon, as it Leah's and Jack's.

So who do I think will be the next to go? It's getting hard
because I really like all of the dancers that are still in the competition, and
all of them have something special about them. My instinct, though, is
predicting that Jack will be the next celebrity to take his final bow. Next
week will tell the tale! And I can't wait to see Cher join the show. That
promises to be entertaining!
