ATLANTA (AP) – Calhoun scored on a 40-yard double-reverse pass from Baylon Spector to Carson Brown early in the fourth quarter and defeated Washington County, 27-20, to win the Georgia High School Association Class AAA state football title on Friday night at the Georgia Dome.
Kaelan Riley, who completed 11 of 22 passes for 164 yards, ran 18 yards for a score in the third quarter after throwing a 7-yard touchdown pass to Cole Jackson in the first quarter as Calhoun (15-0) completed an unbeaten season while handing Washington County (14-1) its first loss.
A.J. Gray scored from 8 and a yard out for Washington County while gaining 122 yards on the ground. He also completed 12 of 24 passes for 142 yards.
Washington County, which had already set a GHSA scoring record this season, led 17-14 at halftime when Wesley Ruberia booted his first of two field goals, this one from 24 yards with 25 seconds remaining.
