Aiken, SC (WJBF) — Chris Hamilton was introduced as the new head football coach at South Aiken High School on Wednesday.
Hamilton comes to South Aiken from Lexington High School. He was the assistant head coach and also served as the team’s strength and conditioning coach. He says strength and conditioning will be a point of emphasis at South Aiken.
Hamilton says he’s been dreaming of becoming a head coach since the 8th grade. He says it’s both great and nerve-wracking for that dream to come true. “It’s like reality hits, and you’re finally like ok, I got a job, and you’re really jacked up and all of a sudden you’re like, oh man, I got a job,” Hamilton said Wednesday. “North augusta has made their run, Aiken made their run, and Silver Bluff’s made their run. It’s time for South Aiken to make a run.”
Hamilton replaces Jeremy West resigned in November after going 9-46 in 5 seasons. West, who coached Team South Carolina to a win in Border Bowl 2, told WJBF Sports on Wednesday that he will be taking an offensive coordinator and offensive line coach job at Westside High School in Anderson, South Carolina.
