The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is buying new vests for their tactical team.
Captain Eric Abdullah says these vests are not the same vests that uniformed deputies wear. These new vests are made for maximum protection in high risk scenarios.
“They’re used to respond to those high risk situations, those extraordinary events that we may have, such as a hostage situation, a standoff with an armed suspect, so they’re used for those situations so where we can still have uniformed deputies running everyday calls,” said Captain Eric Abdullah, of the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.
The heavy lead vests have a life span of 5 years. After that, they expire and it’s time to restock.
