Bamberg, SC (WJBF) — “It’s exciting at this point but yet I’m like, man can it hurry up?” That’s what an anxious A.J. Cann said earlier this week as he waits to find out where he’ll be playing professional football.
The Bamberg-Ehrhardt alum started 51 games on the Gamecocks offensive line and is projected to go anywhere from late in the first round to the 3rd round. The 1st round of the NFL draft is Thursday night. The 2nd and 3rd rounds are Friday night.
Cann has visited with over half the teams in the league over the past 3 weeks. He has no idea where he’ll be headed, but at this point he just can’t wait to know which city he’ll be headed to next. “It’ll be a sigh of relief, like man, I finally know what team I’m going to play for.”
Cann was back in Bamberg earlier this week to spend time with his family and some friends. “It never crossed my mind to ever think I’d have a child, a young man, that’d grow up to be a professional football player — to get the opportunity,” Cann’s dad Isaiah told us. “This isn’t something you plan for and you don’t expect it. You know, you expect good things to happen to good people and he’s one of those individuals but everyone is just overwhelmed and it’s always the same thing: it couldn’t have happened to a better kid.”
