Some firefighters took off their boots for a great cause Thursday.
Crew members from Martinez-Columbia Fire Rescue stood at intersections throughout the county, holding their boot for drivers to drop in donations.
They’re raising money for several charities, like the Southeastern Firefighters Burn Foundation, which provides housing and other assistance to families and victims of burn patients.
One battalion chief says, stepping away from the flames allows them to help families in other ways. “When we go to a fire scene, we’re helping people in a tragic situation and we’re able to help people in a different way now…it’s not a tragic situation but a more caring situation,” said Batallion Chief Danny Kuhlmann.
The firefighters also raised funds for the Children’s Miracle Network, Columbia County Community Connections, and the American Red Cross.
They will be collecting until 7:00 p.m. Thursday night.
