The City of Grovetown is saying Gary Jones, who is the former director of the Grovetown Department of Public Safety, is misrepresenting information concerning his firing and meeting start times.
On Tuesday, we received a letter from Grovetown city attorney Brendan Fleming, who explained the discrepancy in start times for this week’s Grovetown City Council meeting.
Fleming wrote, “Gary Jones incorrectly stated that the City Council meeting was at 6:00 p.m. on Monday night, May 11, 2015. The City Work session begins at 5:30 p.m. and the City Council meeting actually starts as soon as the work session ends. This procedure has been in place since 2010. Having been a Department head and having been required to attend such meetings in the past, it is questionable why Mr. Jones would have told the media the incorrect time.”
The letter came after citizens claimed Monday night’s meeting started early. Some citizens had come to the meeting to give their opinions of Jones’ termination. Two differemt times were listed on Grovetown’s website. On the “Elected Officials” page, the Council meeting start time was listed as 6:00 p.m. On a separate calendar application, the time was listed as 5:30 p.m.
