Here are the six things you need to know before you go!
The fight for former Grovetown Police Chief ended Monday- before it even got started. Dozens showed up to support Gary Jones, but didn’t get a chance to say a word. That’s because the city council meeting lasted only two minutes and no one could voice their concerns. Supporters of Jones say he was a good man and did great things for Grovetown. Jones says he was let go after he demoted Captain Donnie Jones. He plans to take action against the city.
Aiken City leaders passed the second reading of the new hospitality tax Monday night. This means that the tax will go into effect on June First. The tax will add one or two percent to the sale of prepared meals. Money from the tax would be set aside for a new parking garage and help reduce business license taxes.
The Richmond County Board of Education is set to meet for a called board meeting later today. On the agenda for today’s meeting is the 2016 budget along with the Superintendent’s End-Of-Year evaluation. Those meetings are set to begin at 4 p.m. today at the Board Of Education chambers on Broad Street.
South Carolina State leaders announced Volvo has chosen the palmetto state to build it’s new car plant. The plant will be built in Berkley County and is set to bring about 2 thousand jobs in the next ten years. Volvo will begin building that plant this Fall and the first cars will roll off the assembly line by 2018. Volvo expects to make about 100,000 cars a year at the Berkley plant.
We’ve got three accidents slowing area traffic already this morning. In Columbia County, deputies are on the scene of a collision on Wrightsboro Road at the intersection of Appling Harlem Highway… there were injuries reported in that incident and drivers should expect short delays. Richmond County has a crash on southbound Jimmie Dyess Parkway, headed towards Fort Gordon, just past the Wrightsboro Road intersection. And deputies are wrapping up a crash from about forty-five minutes ago on New Savannah Road at the intersection of Skyview Drive.
