Jags Tied For Eighth At NCAA Chapel Hill Regional

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The No. 49 nationally-ranked Jaguar men’s golf team teed off in their 19th NCAA regional and sit in a tie for eighth out of 13 teams with a round one 292 (+4) at the Chapel Hill Regional on the UNC Finley Golf Course Thursday.


Juniors Robin Petersson and Maverick Antcliff, sophomores Viktor Edin and Jake Marriott, and freshman Broc Everett made up the Jaguar starting five for the three-day event on the par-72, 7,242-yard course. GRU began on the front nine and ended the first round at four-over par to tie for eighth with Penn State.

The tourney continues tomorrow, Friday May 15 with another 18 holes.

No. 50 Charlotte sits in first place at 13-under par, No. 37 Florida is second (-7), No. 1 Florida State and No. 36 Clemson (-4) are tied for third, and No. 19 North Carolina (-2) is in fifth. 

GRU Augusta’s Maverick Antcliff was the only Jaguar to shoot below par in the opening 18 holes – carding a 70 (-2) with one birdie on the front and back nine. Antcliff sits tied for 13th overall, while teammates Robin Petesson and Jake Marriott each shot one-over 73’s and are tied for 30th.

Freshman Broc Everett notched three birdies on the day, but picked up a few strokes near the turn and finished with a 76 (+4) to tie for 59th. Viktor Edin was three over with three holes to play, when he picked up seven strokes on one hole Edin had four birdies total and sits tied for 74th with his round one 82 (+10).

This NCAA Chapel Hill Regional is full of top ranks, as the top-ranked team and the top-ranked individual will both compete.  No. 1 Florida State heads the field of 13 teams, along with the #1 individual in the country, Maverick McNealy of Stanford.  Wake Forest and Clemson are the other two ACC teams in the field.  Miami (Ohio) was crowned the Mid-American Conference Champion, Stanford the Pac-12 Champion, Georgia Regents the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Champion, and Loyola-Maryland the Patriot League Champion.  Jack Maguire of Florida State is the 11th-ranked player in the country, along with fellow Seminole Hank Lebioda at #13.  Will Zalatoris of Wake Forest is the 16th-ranked player in the country, followed by Rowin Caron of Florida State at #24.  Freshman Ben Griffin of North Carolina is the 29th-ranked player in the country.  In this regional, the teams have combined for over 20 wins this season.

Of the 13 teams in the field, eight are ranked in the top 50 according to Golfstat.
