Evans, GA – June is just around the corner, and with thunderstorm activity on the rise, it’s important to know what to do if you are caught outside when lightning strikes.
One of the most important things is when you are outside and thunder roars, head indoors. Get inside any kind of sturdy building. That will keep you safe from lightning.
If you’re caught out in the open with no sturdy shelter nearby, find a low-lying ditch away from tall, isolated objects such as trees or towers. If you’re out on the lake or on the Savannah River, get to shore as soon as you can and seek shelter. Make sure you wait 30 minutes after the last rumble of thunder before heading back outside.
