Commissioners Discuss Plans For Regency Mall

Remember Regency Mall?

Even if you don’t, you may have noticed the empty complex in South Augusta.

Six years ago, Augusta voters approved three and a half millions dollars to create a lake near the complex.

They believed it would help control nearby flooding and enhance the mall property for potential development.

Now Commissioners are again talking about what should be done next.

Abie Ladson, the Engineering Department Director says, “The design is approximately almost 100% yeah but of course the next step is like I said is acquire some of the property out there that’s the next process then of course would be construction but we do have to get some construction funds to do this project.”

Commissioner Wayne Guilfoyle says the owner of the mall says he’s willing to meet with commissioners to discuss what incentives that would be available to redevelopment the mall.
