Local Professional Boxer Puts on Kids Boxing Camp

Augusta, GA (WJBF) —  Professional boxer Justin DeLoach said he didn’t get the one-on-one teaching he would have preferred when he was young, so the 2012 Butler High School graduate took it upon himself to start his own boxing camp.

DeLoach is holding a week-long boxing camp for kids ages 5-14 at the Augusta Boxing Club. The third-year pro boxer owns a 10-1 career record and said he always wanted to use boxing as a platform to help young kids.

“Lots of great things coming from Augusta Boxing Club — lots of great things,” DeLoach said. “A lot of great people come through here — a lot of great kids with so much talent and ambition.”

DeLoach is not trying to just push boxing, but the discipline is takes to succeed at anything in life.

“Not all kids are going to box,” he said. “Some kids are going to venture off and play other sports. Some kids are going to venture off and be a chef, a painter, anything. My goal is to try to reach kids through boxing. Use boxing as my platform and my alter to reach kids. I’m a God-fearing man, so i feel like this is my alter. This is the way i can reach kids, so that’s why i created the camp.”

DeLoach also gave away bookbags with school supplies to kids in his local Augusta neighborhood last year.

He said he plans to do that again this summer and make the camp an annual event as well.
