Happy Birthday to the Army.Fort Gordon celebrated the Army’s 240th birthday Friday.

They began with a 5k run followed by a cake cutting ceremony at the Barton Field Amphitheater.

The youngest officer and youngest enlisted soldier on the installation assisted the Major General Stephen G. Fogarty, commanding general, U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence and Fort Gordon and Regimental Command Sergeant Major Travis Cherry with cutting the cake.

It was a packed ceremony with hundreds of people serving in the Army, Navy, Marines and Aireforce.

Commanding General Stephen Fogarty says it’s a joint effort between everyone. He say he couldn’t be more proud of the men and women he represents.

Fogarty just recently visited the 9/11 memorial in New York and says it’s an experience that made him even more proud to serve this country.

“It’s going to require great young men and women who are willing to step up some for a short time some for much longer, but they’re going to think about something besides themselves,” Fogarty said about the next 240 years.
