Fort Gordon Soldiers invited the public to take part in a welcome home ceremony for Vietnam Veterans.
Many people feel Vietnam Veterans never got the recognition they deserved because of the controversy of the War. Now 40 years later Fort Gordon is holding their first ever Welcome Home ceremony to show the veterans how much their bravery means to this country.
They started with a parade and ended with live entertainment and music. The United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, and the Army Old Guard Silent Drill Team came all the way from Washington DC for the special occasion.
Major General Stephen G. Fogarty, U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence and Fort Gordon commanding general, served as the host.
The soldiers say they are just excited to be able to welcome these veterans home the way they should be.
“To me personally my dad was in Vietnam he was a retired command Sergeant Major just to be able to just witness today’s event to me is very exciting and it means a lot to me because of what my father experienced,” Specialist Roosevelt Jackson said.
