Fort Gordon’s Youth Center had a special visitor teaching water safety today… Georgia’s First Lady, Sandra Deal.
First Lady Sandra Deal read “the polar bear who couldn’t, wouldn’t swim” to dozens of kids. The book explains the “A, B, C’s” of water safety through animals. Whether it’s in the pool or the lake, campers were taught about sizing of life vets, never to go in cold water and always have floats near by to grab onto.
First Lady of Georgia Sandra Deal shares, “With our children getting so hot in the summer time and they naturally want to head for the water, if they don’t have a little directive, sometimes they will sneak away and we had a few deaths in the last few years in Georgia. And so we just want to try to point out to families how important safe swimming is.”
The fort Gordon youth summer camp ends tomorrow…. The goal of this all is to have thousands more children in Georgia know proper water safety.
