A group from Bethel AME Church in Augusta is making the trip to Charleston this morning.
Take a look at this video shot about four this morning as members met at the church and got on board a bus.
They will travel to TD Arena at the College of Charleston for the service.
The funeral is open to the public, but space will be limited.
Reverend Mark Pierson from Bethel AME was a close friend to Senator Pinckney.
The Senator was married at Bethel AME, but the pastor says his connection to the Augusta church is even stronger than that.
“He has first cousins here, he’s preached here several times, he’s performed baptisms, so that’s the connection. And he’s a close friend. A family friend of mine.”
